84 Cooperative Societies Empowered with Farming Inputs to Boost Food Security in Adamawa

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to enhancing livelihoods for vulnerable citizens through the provision of welfare services.

 

This commitment was underscored at the official flag-off of an empowerment program for 84 registered agricultural cooperative societies in Adamawa State, organized by the Ministry of Entrepreneurship Development.

The initiative aims to distribute farming inputs to over 1,000 farmers, thereby boosting food security and driving economic growth.

Governor Fintiri emphasized the crucial role of these cooperative societies in achieving inclusive development and shared prosperity. He highlighted their significance in:
* Food Production: Increasing both household and commercial food production.
* Economic Development: Driving economic growth, creating jobs, and reducing0 poverty.
* Social Integration: Fostering social cohesion and community development.
[Government Support and Expectations]
The governor reiterated the government’s dedication to investing in the physical, social, and economic security of its citizens. He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to utilize the provided inputs effectively to enhance their farming operations, improve their livelihoods, and alleviate poverty.

The Commissioner for Entrepreneurship Development, Hammanjumba Gatugel, explained that the ministry was established in 2019 with a mandate to:
Develop and implement entrepreneurship development initiatives and strategies, Facilitate the growth of businesses and industries within the state.
He elaborated on the ministry’s diverse activities, including supporting over 2,000 registered cooperative societies across all 21 local government areas engaged in various trades such as farming, trading, tailoring, and food processing. He expressed gratitude to Governor Fintiri for empowering citizens to become self-reliant and economically independent.

The event witnessed goodwill messages from various stakeholders, including the Director-General of the Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation Agency, Dr. Michael Zirra. All speakers expressed appreciation for Governor Fintiri’s people-oriented policies and programs aimed at creating a better and more productive future for Adamawa State.
