As part of its push for agribusiness development, job creation, and rural revitalization, the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has announced plans to establish a 400-hectare oil palm plantation in Kiri, Shelleng Local Government Area.

The project, driven by the Adamawa State ACReSAL (Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes) initiative, aims to promote sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and land reclamation.

A key milestone was achieved during a recent stakeholder held in Yola, where 20 representatives from the Kiri community pledged full community ownership of the project. This followed a sensitization session that outlined the plantation’s long-term benefits in employment, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.

Also in attendance were Environment Commissioner Mohammed Sadiq, officials from the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources, and ACReSAL State Project Coordinator Dr. Chinda Ibrahim—reinforcing the government’s commitment to inclusive, community-led development.

More than just an agricultural venture, the Kiri oil palm plantation is set to become a model for sustainable, community-driven growth. It will enhance livelihoods, boost the local economy, and support environmental restoration in one of Adamawa’s key agricultural zones.

Governor Fintiri’s administration continues to prioritize strategic partnerships, community engagement, and climate-smart agriculture to position Adamawa as a leader in sustainable agribusiness.
