Today, we joined the Host of Heaven, the world and especially, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), the Province of Jos, and the Diocese of Yola in celebrating a remarkable milestone: the 60th birthday of a Father per Excellence, His Grace, The Most Rev. Markus Amfani Ibrahim, Archbishop of the Province of Jos and Bishop of Yola.
Sixty years, is no small feat, especially when spent in unweaving service to God, the Church, and humanity. Archbishop Markus has not only shepherded the flock entrusted to his care but also remained a symbol of humility, wisdom, and resilience in a time of spiritual, social, and political challenges.
From a Hausa Pagan of the North, he bulldozed his way to Christ, just like Apostle Paul of old, crying in the wilderness for the salvation of men. And from his early days in ministry to his present leadership at the provincial and diocesan levels, Archbishop Markus has stood firm in the truth of the Gospel. His voice has echoed across parishes, synods, and communities—always championing righteousness, justice, and peace. He has mentored countless clergymen, inspired Lay Readers, and ministered to the needs of the poor and brokenhearted.
As Bishop of Yola, he has led with a pastor’s heart and a prophet’s courage, building churches and schools, providing stability and hope to a region that has been in trials for long. As Archbishop of the Province of Jos, he has worked tirelessly to strengthen unity among dioceses and clergy, promoting sound doctrine and spiritual growth throughout the northern region of Nigeria.
His 60th birthday is not just a celebration of age, but a celebration of impact—decades of unwavering faith, selfless service, and compassionate leadership, supported by God given Help meet Mummy Liatu Markus (Mama Province/Diocese). A Woman of God, so humble and meek, a lover of all. She is the strength behind the growth and greatness of His Grace. Toiling with him right from the humble beginning, supporting him all through the ladder to greatness. She is the wife of his youth and the mother of children. She is a Mother indeed. Blessing God for the life of the Preacher per time through her ceaseless prayers.
As we celebrate this Diamond Jubilee, we pray that God will cause him to shine, continue to renew his strength, increase his wisdom, and surround him with peace, joy and grace in the years ahead. May his life remain a living testimony of God’s grace, and may his ministry continue to bear lasting fruit in the Church and beyond.
Archbishop Markus Amfani Ibrahim, the Church celebrates you, the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion, celebrates you, the Province of Jos celebrates you, the Diocese of Yola celebrates and Mazi Uchenna Nwafor & family celebrates you. Heaven rejoices in your faithful service. 60 Happy Cheers to a Father Indeed.
