The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Adamawa State, Reverend Dr. Joel Manzo, accompanied by Vice Chairman Rev. Dr. Victor Saje and other executive members, formally presented relief items to the victims of recent flooding in Yola South which claimed twenty lives.

During the presentation of these donations, Reverend Dr. Manzo extended his condolences to the victims, particularly those who have suffered the loss of loved ones as a result of the disaster. He stated, “As we distribute these relief materials to complement the efforts of individuals, families, non-governmental organisations, and the state government, it is important to recognise that the quantity of these items is limited. Consequently, I urge the leadership of the Local Government CAN to exercise sensitivity in the distribution process, prioritising the needs of the most vulnerable and severely affected individuals.”

In his dual role as the president of the Gongola Baptist Convention, Reverend Manzo commended the local CAN leadership for their resilience during this difficult period and offered prayers for divine comfort and guidance for those enduring these challenges.

He further highlighted the necessity of supporting and safeguarding government initiatives aimed at enhancing the living conditions of all citizens, particularly concerning drainage management, as the community endeavours to recover from the disaster.

Moreover, he encouraged the citizens of Adamawa to engage in the ongoing voter registration process to ensure their ability to elect credible leaders who will govern with integrity and a sense of responsibility.

Representing the victims, Pastor Ibrahim Joseph, the CAN Coordinator for Yola South, expressed appreciation for the timely and meaningful intervention provided by the state leadership of CAN. He assured that the distribution of relief items would be conducted fairly and equitably while acknowledging the contributions of governmental and non-governmental organisations that have played a role in alleviating the hardships faced by the flood victims.

The items donated included essential supplies such as rice, maize, clothing, and mats.
