Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has approved the formation of a joint committee to address salary disparities affecting 11 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) yet to benefit from the recent wage increase.
The committee, chaired by the Head of Civil Service, Pharmacist Shehu Isa, will collaborate with key stakeholders to identify challenges and propose strategies to improve the welfare of affected workers.
Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta disclosed this during the Workers’ Day celebration held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola. Representing Governor Fintiri at the event, she reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving workers’ conditions.
“We remain committed to the timely payment of salaries, opportunities for capacity building, and overall human capital development,” she said.
Farauta praised the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for its steadfast advocacy on behalf of workers.
“The NLC’s dedication to promoting social justice and fairness in the workplace is commendable. We will continue to build a state where workers are not only respected but also equipped to thrive,” she added.
In his remarks, the NLC State Chairman, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, decried the rising cost of electricity, worsened by the new band-based supply categorization. He also noted that staff of the Bureau for Public Procurement, the Offices of the Accountant and Auditor General, the Judiciary, and the Legislature are among those affected by the wage delay due to legal constraints.
The celebration featured a march past by various NLC and TUC affiliate groups, with awards and gifts presented to deserving members.
