Adamawa State Governor, Dr. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has approved an upward review of the monthly allowances for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state—from ₦20,000 to ₦30,000.

Governor Fintiri made the announcement during the formal opening of the 2015 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Damare, Girei Local Government Area.

While welcoming the 1,200 Corps members deployed to the state, the governor urged them to feel at home and make the most of the orientation activities and skills acquisition opportunities that would be provided at the camp.

He congratulated them on their successful graduation from various institutions of higher learning, which qualified them for the mandatory national service. Governor Fintiri further assured the Corps members of his administration’s continued efforts to create a conducive environment for a successful and impactful service year.

“In addition to sustaining interventions such as improved feeding arrangements, we have increased the monthly allowance of Corps members serving in Adamawa State from twenty thousand to thirty thousand naira,” the governor announced to applause.

In his remarks, the Chairman, NYSC Governing Board in Adamawa State and Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barr. Wali Yakubu, advised the Corps members to take the orientation course seriously and strictly adhere to camp rules and regulations. He also encouraged them to actively participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which he described as a vital tool for self-reliance and economic empowerment.

Earlier in her address, the Adamawa State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Osoroh Caroline Chinedu, commended Governor Fintiri for the gesture, describing the increase in allowance as a clear demonstration of his unwavering commitment to youth development in the state.

The highlight of the event was the formal swearing-in of the Corps members, administered by the Chief Judge of Adamawa State.
