GPF Condemns Deadly Plateau Attacks, Accuses Suspected Herdsmen of Alleged Ethnic Cleansing Plot

The Gongola Peoples Forum (GPF) has strongly condemned the recent deadly attacks on communities in Plateau State, describing them as a deliberate attempt to wipe out indigenous ethnic nationalities. The group accused suspected Fulani herdsmen of orchestrating the violence, which has claimed nearly 100 lives—mostly women, children, and the elderly.

In a statement signed by its First Vice Chairman, Mr. Daniel Maliki, GPF described the recurring attacks in Plateau State as “barbaric, horrific, and unacceptable in any civilized society.” The forum warned that continued violence, coupled with official inaction, could push communities toward self-defense.

“Plateau State was once a peaceful and attractive destination, but over the past two decades, it has suffered constant assaults by suspected herdsmen,” the statement said. “These acts are not random—they are part of a well-planned ethnic cleansing agenda.”

The GPF also criticized the federal government for its handling of the crisis, saying its slow and inconsistent response has emboldened the perpetrators. The group further condemned what it described as a dangerous silence from northern leadership bodies such as the Arewa Consultative Forum, and questioned a recent comment attributed to the Sultan of Sokoto, in which social media was allegedly referred to as a “terrorist platform” for reporting the attacks.

“This is an attempt to suppress the truth about the killings and shield those responsible,” the group stated.

GPF praised former Defence Minister General T.Y. Danjuma for his consistent call for communities to defend themselves, stating that many parts of the country are facing what appears to be an undeclared war.

The group offered condolences to the victims’ families, Governor Caleb Muftwang, and the Middle Belt Forum, describing the loss as devastating.

“This tragedy must not be allowed to repeat itself,” GPF warned.
