As part of her Renewed Hope Initiative project, Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, recently visited Delta State.

During her visit, students from the Delta State School of Nursing were captured on video mocking the First Lady, rejecting her designation as “our mother.”

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State, who welcomed Oluremi Tinubu, spoke about the country’s ongoing transformation in the health sector, crediting the First Lady’s efforts through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), which aims to improve the lives of Nigerians. He commended her commitment to enhancing the well-being of the nation’s citizens, particularly through RHI’s activities since its launch in 2023.

During the event, the First Lady presented professional kits to the wives of governors from the South-South geopolitical zone, who also serve as RHI State coordinators.

Upon arrival, Oluremi Tinubu visited the Traditional Rulers’ Council Chambers in Delta State, where the rulers were holding their monthly meeting, led by the Orodje of Okpe, retired Major General Felix Mujak Peruo.

However, a moment that sparked widespread reactions on social media occurred during the reception of the First Lady. The Master of Ceremony referred to Oluremi Tinubu as “everyone’s mother,” a title often given to First Ladies in reference to their role as the “mother of the nation.”

In response, the students of the Delta State School of Nursing rejected the title, chanting, “Na your mama be this” (translated as “this is your mother”) instead of the expected “Na our mama be this” (translated as “this is our mother”).

While the reasons for the students’ rejection of the title remain unclear, many Nigerians have voiced their frustrations over the current administration, citing issues such as the rising cost of living and insecurity. Recently, Nigerians even initiated a 30-day Rant Challenge to express their dissatisfaction with the hardships under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.

This incident has added fuel to ongoing discontent, especially considering that the First Lady herself had previously visited the nursing school in Agbor, Delta State.
