NUPENG, PENGASSAN Threaten Strike Over External Appointments at NNPC

Oil workers under NUPENG and PENGASSAN have warned NNPC’s new GCEO, Bayo Ojulari, against appointing outsiders to top management roles, threatening to shut down operations if the directive is ignored.

In a letter to the NNPC Chief Human Resource Officer, the unions said internal staff should fill executive vice president, deputy manager, and manager positions, citing the availability of qualified professionals within the company.

They called the move to hire externally “unjust and wasteful,” warning it would block career progression and disrupt company stability.

The letter, jointly signed by PENGASSAN and NUPENG leaders, congratulated Ojulari on his appointment but cautioned that repeating past trends of external recruitment could spark industrial unrest.

They stated, “We categorically reject the hiring of any staff above the SS6 cadre from outside NNPC. Any such move will face strong resistance, including a total shutdown.”
