The Pene Da Bwatiye Development Association Worldwide has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the recent violent conflict between the Chobbo and some Bwatiye communities in the Bachama Kingdom of Adamawa State.

In an official statement jointly signed by the President, James Iliya and Secretary, Emmanuel Bapatu, the association described the clashes as a “monumental tragedy” that has strained centuries-old bonds of kinship, intermarriage, and peaceful coexistence between the two communities.

“For generations, the Chobbo and Bwatiye have lived as brothers and sisters, bound by shared ancestry, history, and cultural ties,” the statement read. “It is therefore devastating that this profound relationship is now being eroded by mistrust and acrimony.”

The violence, reportedly sparked by disputes over farmlands, resulted in the loss of lives, multiple injuries, and widespread destruction of homes and property. The association strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as a betrayal of ancestral values and shared humanity.

“To deem this violence merely ‘unacceptable’ is an understatement,” the statement continued. “This bloodshed against our own kin violates the deepest principles of our unity.”

The Pene Da Bwatiye extended condolences to the bereaved families and sympathies to those injured or displaced.

Support for Government Action

The group commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for promptly imposing a 24-hour curfew in Lamurde Local Government Area, noting that the move helped contain the escalation of violence and protect lives.

While acknowledging the curfew as a necessary short-term measure, the association stressed the urgent need for more sustainable solutions.

Calls for Government Action

The group called on the Adamawa State Government to urgently:

Establish an independent, high-powered commission of inquiry

Investigate both the remote and immediate causes of the crisis

Identify and prosecute those responsible for inciting and perpetrating the violence

Recommend actionable steps to prevent future occurrences

Ensure lasting security presence in affected communities

Appeal for Reconciliation

Beyond legal action, the Pene Da Bwatiye called for a sincere peace and reconciliation process involving community leaders, elders, government officials, and traditional institutions.

“This crisis has left a painful scar on our shared history,” the statement concluded. “We must return to the path of unity, heal our wounds, and reaffirm our commitment to peaceful coexistence. Our shared future depends on it.”

The association pledged its full support for all efforts aimed at ensuring justice, healing, and lasting peace in the region.
