In a recent interview, Umar Bello Jada—popularly known as Calculate—made baseless allegations against Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Amb. Umar Damagun, and the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed. He accused them of compromising the party’s integrity to benefit the ruling party ahead of 2027. These claims are not only reckless but reflect a deep misunderstanding of Nigeria’s political dynamics.

It is baffling that anyone would describe Calculate as a frontline politician in Adamawa State. At best, he has served as comic relief during tense moments, never as a serious political actor. His reputation is built on inconsistency and political theatrics that have long lost relevance. His latest outburst is just another attempt to revive a dwindling relevance using tired antics from a bygone era.

But times have changed. The people of Adamawa, and indeed Nigerians, are no longer easily swayed by populist rhetoric, empty promises, or recycled political mischief. They can now discern between genuine leadership and opportunistic noise-making. Calculate and others like him are stuck in the past, clinging to outdated tactics that no longer resonate with an enlightened electorate.

What’s worse is his confused messaging. In one breath, he claims to champion the PDP, yet he panders to the APC narrative—leaving one to wonder where his true allegiance lies. His disjointed statements, erratic focus, and shifting tone reveal more about his personal political desperation than any real concern for party integrity or national progress.

Political migration is not a new phenomenon in Nigeria. Key players—including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar—have moved between parties in pursuit of political ideals or strategic advantage. The same goes for Governor Fintiri, Damagun, and Bala Mohammed. Political realignments are part and parcel of democratic evolution, not acts of betrayal as Calculate suggests.

The idea that these leaders are “forcing” defections is not only absurd but also an insult to the intelligence of those involved. These are individuals with political pedigree and agency, capable of making informed choices based on national interest, not coercion.

As Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve, new leaders are emerging while old power structures are being redefined. In the North-East, Governor Fintiri stands out as a transformative figure. He has defied the odds, repositioned Adamawa, and inspired hope far beyond the region.

While Calculate continues to rant from the sidelines, the real work of leadership and nation-building goes on. The people of Adamawa know where the light shines—on leaders like Fintiri who have consistently delivered progress.

I am George Kushi. Where politics meets truth—I write.
