The Kano State Government has banned live political programmes on all media platforms in the state and issued new guidelines for media interviews.
According to the government, the move aims to promote “responsible journalism, mutual respect, and the protection of Kano State’s cultural and religious heritage.”
The decision followed a meeting with media executives chaired by the governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Waiya.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Sani Yola, Director of Special Duties at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, said anyone appearing on media platforms must now sign an undertaking to avoid making abusive, defamatory, or culturally offensive remarks.
The statement added that the ban on live political broadcasts is intended to curb the spread of inflammatory content and discourage provocative questioning by journalists during interviews.
