The Kaduna State Chapter of the Retired Police Officers’ Union, under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), has announced plans to stage a nationwide peaceful protest on July 21, 2025, over unresolved issues surrounding their inclusion in the scheme, according to https://dailypost.ng/
In a joint statement signed by the chapter’s Chairman, Retired CSP Mannir M. Lawal Zaria, and Vice Chairman, Retired ASP Danlami Maigamo, the union described the planned demonstration as the “Mother of All Peaceful Protests.” The action, they said, aims to press home their demand for the Nigeria Police Force to be excluded from the CPS.
“As law-abiding citizens, we shall continue to pursue our demand for the Nigeria Police to be exited from the CPS through peaceful means until our voices are heard,” the statement read.
The decision followed a crucial meeting held in Kaduna, where members expressed frustration over the government’s silence on their concerns and the lack of action following a previous protest.
Between February 24 and March 3, the Kaduna and Bauchi State chapters of the union had staged a peaceful protest at the National Assembly. During the protest, written petitions were submitted to key offices, including Senate and House Committee Chairmen and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS). However, the group said it had received no response, particularly regarding the outcome of a public hearing held on November 19, 2024, on the proposed establishment of a Police Pension Board.
The retired officers are demanding that the Nigeria Police be removed from the current contributory pension system and placed under a separate pension board that addresses their unique welfare and post-service needs.
