Over 1,000 Youths in Adamawa State have gained valuable skills in responsible social media engagement, thanks to a training initiative by the Nigerian Army.
Held in Yola, the program focused on promoting national security through responsible online conduct.
This training marked the 39th edition of the Nigerian Army’s quarterly Social Media Seminar. The initiative equips young people with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of social media, particularly as it relates to national security.
Representing the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Emmanuel Ndagi, Director of Research and Development at Defence Headquarters, underscored the power of social media as a tool for information sharing and dissemination. He recognized the crucial role youth play in society and encouraged them to build a responsible online presence.
Major General Gold Chibuisi, Chief of Civil Military Affairs (Army, Airforce, and Navy), reinforced this message, urging participants to be mindful of their online posts and avoid content that could potentially threaten national security. He challenged them to put their new knowledge into practice.
The training included informative paper presentations on key topics such as “Building an Online Presence for National Security” and “Positive Advocacy through Social Media for Enhanced National Security.” These sessions helped reshape participants’ understanding and practices regarding online engagement.
Some of the participants who spoke with Kanari Media praised the Nigerian military for the initiative, describing it as timely and highly relevant.
The program not only equips youth with valuable digital literacy skills but also fosters a sense of civic responsibility. It empowers them to leverage their online platforms to promote unity, peace, and national security within their communities and beyond.
