Chief Peter Leonard Ndwacho Fwa, a frontline aspirant for the Adamawa South Senatorial seat, has officially withdrawn from the 2026 senatorial primary race and announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing what he described as a compromised and unfair primary process ahead of the party’s scheduled election on May 18.
Addressing journalists during a press briefing on Thursday evening, Ndwacho said his decision followed extensive consultations with political associates, supporters, and stakeholders across the nine local government areas that make up the Adamawa South Senatorial Zone.
The former aspirant expressed disappointment over what he termed the deviation from principles of fairness, transparency, and justice within the party’s internal process in Adamawa State.
According to him, he had fully complied with all requirements stipulated by the APC by purchasing his Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms and successfully passing the screening exercise conducted by the party’s National Screening Committee in Abuja.
Fwa explained that his decision to contest the Senate seat again was driven by persistent calls from supporters and political stakeholders across the zone, who urged him to offer leadership and representation at the National Assembly.
He recalled that he previously contested for the same position in 2019 and came close to victory before stepping down in the interest of party unity after appeals from party leaders.
The senatorial hopeful stated that despite making sacrifices for the growth and stability of the APC over the years, recent developments surrounding the conduct of the forthcoming primary election had left him with no confidence in the integrity of the process.
“After careful observation and thorough examination, we have come to the conclusion that the process has deviated from the principles of fairness, transparency, and justice,” he stated.
He added that consultations held with supporters and stakeholders from Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, Guyuk, Ganye, Jada, Toungo, Mayo-Belwa, and Shelleng Local Government Areas revealed widespread concerns that the process had already been compromised barely days to the primary election.
Fwa said the situation compelled him to formally withdraw from the race and completely exit the APC.
The politician described the decision as painful, considering the sacrifices, support, and goodwill shown by his supporters across the senatorial zone.
However, he urged his loyalists and supporters to remain calm and law-abiding while consultations continue on alternative democratic platforms to advance the interests of the people of Adamawa South.
“I sincerely appreciate the overwhelming support, prayers, and solidarity we have received throughout this journey,” he said.
The development is expected to further reshape the political landscape ahead of the APC senatorial primary in Adamawa South, where internal party dynamics and allegations of candidate imposition have continued to generate tension among party faithful.
