Aspirants seeking the House of Representatives tickets under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State have vowed to resist any attempt to impose candidates ahead of the party’s 2027 primary elections.
The warning was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the 2027 APC Adamawa State House of Representatives Aspirants Forum held ahead of the primaries scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2026.
Spraking on behalf of the forum, Hon. Vrati Nzonzo, declared that any move by party leaders or external forces to handpick candidates outside a transparent democratic process would be strongly opposed, warning that such actions could destabilize the party and weaken its chances in the 2027 general elections.
According to the forum, consensus arrangements across the eight federal constituencies in Adamawa State have failed, making direct and credible primaries the only legitimate pathway for the emergence of candidates.
The group therefore called on the party leadership to conduct free, fair and transparent primaries across all the 226 wards in the state.
The communiqué further alleged that some aspirants had come under pressure from certain state party executives to withdraw from the race based on alleged “orders from above.”
The forum claimed that names of the Governor of Adamawa State and the National Security Adviser were allegedly being invoked by some party officials in attempts to compel aspirants to step down for preferred candidates.
The aspirants also expressed concern over reports of a purported “Presidential List” containing names of favoured candidates for the eight federal constituencies in the state.
They maintained that imposing unpopular candidates on party members would amount to a betrayal of internal democracy and could trigger dissatisfaction among party supporters.
“Any attempt to impose candidates on the party will be resisted by aspirants and supporters who believe in democratic principles and fairness,” the communiqué emphasized.
The forum urged the leadership of the APC at both the state and national levels to ensure that the primary process strictly complies with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
The aspirants recalled the party’s experiences in previous elections, warning that actions capable of undermining due process could negatively affect the APC’s electoral fortunes in Adamawa State.
Despite the tension surrounding the primaries, the forum appealed to supporters across the state to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding while awaiting the party’s response to their concerns.
