Adamawa-based entrepreneur and philanthropist Diaulhaq Abubakar has provided food items and cash support to more than 12,000 vulnerable Nigerians during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons.
The intervention, implemented through Blue Community Africa, targets low-income Muslim and Christian households in Adamawa State, easing the burden of fasting and religious observance amid rising food prices and widespread economic hardship.
Abubakar said the initiative was inspired by shared religious values that emphasise compassion, charity, and service to humanity.
“Ramadan and Lent are periods that call for sacrifice and support for the less privileged,” he said. “At a time when many families are struggling, it is important that no one is denied the opportunity to worship with dignity.”
Food and Cash Support Amid Economic Pressures.
According to Abubakar, the programme began shortly after the commencement of both religious seasons and has already reached thousands of families. Beneficiaries receive staple food items including rice, sugar, seasoning, as well as cash assistance to help meet basic household needs.
Community volunteers overseeing the distribution say the support has helped reduce the pressure on families facing inflation-driven food insecurity, particularly in urban and peri-urban communities.
Focus on Sustainable Empowerment
Beyond seasonal relief, Abubakar highlighted the foundation’s long-term focus on skills development and economic empowerment. Over the years, Blue Community Africa has trained thousands of Nigerians in agriculture, information and communication technology (ICT), painting, and educational advancement.“We are not just addressing immediate needs,” he said. “We are investing in skills that help people become self-reliant and productive members of society.”
He added that Nigeria’s development efforts must give equal attention to vocational and technical skills alongside formal education, especially in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Strategic Partnerships
To strengthen its human capital development agenda, the foundation has established partnerships with both local and international institutions, including Indian Institute of Technology Madras for knowledge transfer initiatives, and Modibbo Adama University to expand vocational and skills-based training programmes.
Many beneficiaries of these initiatives, Abubakar noted, have gone on to establish small businesses and pursue gainful employment.
Promoting National Unity
Observers say the initiative stands out for its interfaith approach at a time when social cohesion remains a key national concern.
