Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have attacked Wagga Mongono, a community in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, killing four people and injuring several others during a late-night raid on Tuesday.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen stormed the village under the cover of darkness, shooting indiscriminately before setting homes, shops, and a church ablaze. Panic-stricken residents fled into nearby bushes, abandoning their belongings in a desperate bid to stay alive.
The attack has plunged the community into grief, as survivors mourn their loved ones and count heavy losses. Properties worth millions of naira were reportedly destroyed in the assault.
Although authorities are yet to issue an official statement, local sources confirmed that security operatives have since been deployed to restore calm in the area.
The assault marks the latest in a string of insurgent attacks targeting communities in northern Adamawa, which shares a porous border with Borno, the epicenter of Boko Haram’s activities.
