Chief Peter Leonard Fwa, a prominent political figure and community leader, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Senate seat representing Adamawa Southern Senatorial Zone under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fwa made the declaration on Wednesday at PIBZ Lounge in Jimeta/Yola, where he addressed a gathering of supporters, stakeholders, and members of the press, outlining his vision for the zone and his commitment to service-driven leadership.
Speaking at the event, the aspirant—who holds the traditional titles of Ta Pwari Mbula and Ndyeigo Bachama—said his decision to join the race followed extensive consultations with traditional rulers, elders, youths, women, and other critical stakeholders across the southern zone.
“I stand before you not as a stranger, but as your son, your brother, and one of you,” Fwa said. “I have walked the same roads you walk, felt the same struggles you face, and share in the same hopes we all carry for a better future.”
He emphasized that his ambition is rooted in service rather than personal gain, pledging to prioritize the welfare of constituents if elected. According to him, the Southern Senatorial Zone has long grappled with infrastructural deficits, limited economic opportunities, and inadequate representation in key decision-making processes.
“Our people deserve better—better opportunities for our youths, better support for our farmers, better education for our children, and improved healthcare services for our families,” he stated.
Fwa highlighted the challenges facing the region, including poor road networks, unemployment, and what he described as insufficient advocacy for the zone at the national level. He assured constituents that he would serve as a strong voice for their interests in the National Assembly.
“I am stepping forward to be that voice. I come not with empty promises, but with a genuine commitment to listen, to represent with integrity, and to work tirelessly for the progress of every community in Adamawa Southern Zone,” he added.
Addressing key demographic groups, the aspirant pledged targeted interventions for youths, women, and the elderly. He stressed the need to secure the future of young people through job creation and empowerment initiatives, while also recognizing the critical role of women in community development.
“To our youths, your future matters and must be secured. To our women, you are the backbone of our society and will never be left behind. To our elders, your wisdom will continue to guide us,” Fwa said.
He described his candidacy as a collective movement aimed at repositioning the southern zone for sustainable growth and development, urging residents to support his ambition.
“This is not my journey alone; it is our collective journey. Together, we can build a Southern Zone that works for everyone—where opportunities are created, voices are heard, and hope is restored,” he said.
Fwa also used the occasion to commend the leadership of the APC for its commitment to internal democracy, expressing confidence in the party’s promise of free, fair, and transparent primaries.
He further praised the state governor for what he described as ongoing efforts toward development, while calling for continued collaboration among stakeholders to advance the interests of the state.
The declaration marks the beginning of what is expected to be a competitive race for the Adamawa Southern Senatorial seat ahead of the next general elections.
