At the 101st Annual National Convention of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), the Church delivered a solemn message of grief, solidarity, and hope in response to recent tragic events affecting communities in northeastern Nigeria.
Speaking at the convention, Most Rev. Dr. Musa Panti Filibus, President of the LCCN, expressed deep sorrow over the renewed wave of violence in Adamawa State, where coordinated attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP left at least 27 innocent civilians dead.
The attacks reportedly targeted the communities of Krichinga, Shuwari Sholi, and Garahamojili, plunging families into mourning and further worsening the humanitarian situation in the region.
In the same address, the Church also lamented a tragic motor accident involving LCCN members from the Simra community, which claimed the lives of four faithful members. The incident occurred as they were traveling in connection with Church activities.
The LCCN strongly condemned all forms of violence against civilians, describing the attacks as an affront to human dignity and the sanctity of life. While commending ongoing efforts by security agencies, the Church urged the Nigerian government to intensify measures to protect vulnerable communities and prevent further loss of life.
According to the statement, the Church is actively supporting victims of the road accident by ensuring access to medical care and welfare assistance. In addition, a special prayer session has been scheduled across LCCN congregations nationwide to remember all victims and comfort grieving families.
“We are called to stand firmly for justice, peace, and the sacredness of every human life,” the statement concluded, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to peacebuilding and advocacy for the protection of all Nigerians.
