The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State on Saturday held its local government congresses across all 21 councils, with most executives emerging through consensus rather than balloting.
The exercise, supervised by a committee led by David Iorhemba, a former Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, was monitored in Yola South, Yola North, and Girei Local Government Areas in company of the State PDP Organising Secretary, Hamza Madagali.
Speaking to journalists in Yola after the congresses, Iorhemba commended members for their maturity and peaceful conduct, noting that the process reflected the party’s democratic ideals. He praised stakeholders and delegates for embracing consensus, saying it demonstrated unity and commitment to the PDP’s progress.
He also lauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for providing leadership that has strengthened the party both at the state and grassroots levels.
Similarly, the Member representing Girei Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Abubakar Abdullahi, and the Chairman of the PDP Girei State Committee, Adamu Atiku, applauded the smooth and orderly exercise. They expressed confidence that the PDP, with its growing cohesion, is well positioned to reclaim and consolidate leadership in the 2027 general elections.
The PDP Appeal Committee is expected to begin sitting on Sunday to consider any petitions from the exercise.
Attention now turns to the state congress slated for next Saturday. Party leaders expressed optimism that, like the ward and local government congresses, it will be transparent and hitch-free.
With the successful conclusion of its ward and local government congresses, the Adamawa PDP says it is strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 polls, presenting itself as a united and formidable force in the state’s political landscape.
