Prominent Islamic scholar and global Tijjaniyya sect leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi, has passed away at the age of 102.
The revered cleric died in the early hours of Thursday at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) in Bauchi, bringing to an end a century-long life devoted to Islamic scholarship, spiritual guidance, and service to humanity.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, confirmed the passing of the highly respected scholar and offered his heartfelt condolences to the Sheikh’s family, followers, students, and the wider Muslim Ummah within and outside Nigeria.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the Governor described Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi as “a towering figure in Islamic scholarship, a man of deep faith, humility, and wisdom.”
He said:
“Innalillahi wa inna Ilaihi Rajiun. It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss that the Bauchi State Government announces the death of renowned and revered Islamic scholar, teacher, and spiritual leader, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi… who returned to his Creator in the early hours of today, Thursday, 27th November, 2025.”
Governor Mohammed noted that Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi spent his entire life advancing the teachings of Islam, spreading the message of the Holy Qur’an, and nurturing generations of students.
Through his many schools and learning centres, the Sheikh mentored thousands who went on to memorise the Qur’an and further propagate Islamic knowledge across Africa. His works in theology, jurisprudence, and Islamic history, the Governor added, have left an indelible mark on society.
“As we mourn this monumental loss,” the Governor said, “we take solace in the fact that Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi lived a life wholly dedicated to the service of Allah, humanity, and knowledge. His legacy will continue to guide and inspire generations.”
Governor Mohammed also reaffirmed that the Bauchi State Government would continue to honour the Sheikh’s legacy by supporting the values and institutions he championed—especially Islamic education, moral discipline, and community development.
He prayed that Almighty Allah forgives the scholar’s shortcomings, grants him Aljannatul Firdaus, and gives his family, followers, and the entire Muslim community the strength to bear the loss.
