Kano Police Arrest Three Over Murder of Housewife, Six Children

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three principal suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a housewife and her six children at Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano.

The incident, which occurred on January 17, 2026, sent shockwaves across the state and drew nationwide outrage over the brutal killing of an entire family.

According to the Police, the arrests followed intelligence-led operations directed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and executed under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that the suspects-Umar Auwalu (23) of Sabuwar Gandu, Isyaku Yakubu (40), also known as Chebe, of Sagagi Quarters, and Yakubu Abdulaziz (21), popularly called Wawo, of Sabon Gida Sharada, were arrested during a sting operation carried out between 10:00pm on January 17 and 4:00am on January 18, 2026.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the alleged ringleader, Umar Auwalu, is a nephew of the deceased woman. He reportedly confessed to orchestrating the murder and further admitted that the same criminal syndicate had been involved in other violent crimes, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters of Kano.

Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothes, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club (gora), cash allegedly stolen from the crime scene, and other dangerous weapons.

The Police said investigations are ongoing to uncover more details and arrest other accomplices linked to the killings.

The Kano State Police Command commended its officers for their swift response and thanked members of the public for their cooperation, prayers, and support. The Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that those responsible for heinous crimes are brought to justice.
